In 2015, I had a sports accident and ruptured my achilles tendon. After delayed surgery and follow-up physical therapy, I got to the point where I could walk without pain, but I limped badly. About a year later I saw my surgeon and he thought that my ankle was about as healed as it could get. I found it painful in my hips and ankle to walk more than a short distance. I avoided group activities where walking was involved.
