“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.” – Colin Powell
Habits make the magic happen. We all have good and bad habits but it is what we do most often that determines where our priorities are and what our life is like.
Atomic Habits is one of my favorite books. I know that sounds odd but I am a sucker for a self-development book and this one tops my list. These are some of my favorite take-aways from that book:
- Know why you want to develop that habit.
- What are you hoping to achieve?
- How will this habit change your life?
- Habit stacking
- If you already have a habit that you do, such as making coffee each morning, you can start a habit of mediation while the coffee is brewing.
- Two minute rule
- If the habits takes less than two minutes, you are more likely to follow through. For example, if you want to start a morning workout routine, when you wake up have your workout clothes and shoes by the bed. If you put on your workout clothes, you are less likely to skip your morning workout.
